What is a client?
A client is a company or individual you perform work for. In iTimedIT, clients act as a grouping layer above projects. You assign projects to a client, and iTimedIT automatically aggregates all time entries across those projects so you can see total hours logged and total billed amount for that client in one place. Clients are optional — you can run projects without them — but they become valuable as soon as you work with more than one client or need to produce per-client billing summaries.
Creating a client
- Click Clients in the left sidebar.
- Click New Client.
- Enter the client’s name.
- Click Save.
The client is now available in the client dropdown when you create or edit a project. You can also create a client inline from the project form without leaving that screen.
Assigning a client to a project
You attach a client to a project when creating or editing the project, not from the Clients page itself.
- Click Projects in the left sidebar.
- Open an existing project or click New Project.
- In the Client field, select the client from the dropdown.
- Click Save.
The project now appears under that client on the Clients page, and its time entries contribute to the client’s aggregate totals. A project can only be assigned to one client at a time.
Viewing client hours
The Clients page gives you a high-level billing summary for every client:
- Total hours — the sum of all time entries across every project assigned to that client.
- Billed amount — the sum of (hours logged x hourly rate) across all projects for the client. Projects without an hourly rate contribute hours but no billed amount.

For a line-by-line breakdown, go to the Entries page and use the client filter to see individual time entries for that client across all date ranges and projects.
Editing and deleting clients
To edit a client name:
- Click Clients in the left sidebar.
- Click the client name you want to change.
- Update the name.
- Click Save.
The updated name is reflected immediately across all projects and time entries associated with that client. You do not need to re-assign anything.
To delete a client:
Open the client menu (three-dot icon) and select Delete. Deleting a client removes only the client record. All projects previously assigned to that client remain intact — they simply lose their client association. No time entries are deleted. If you want to re-associate those projects, edit each one and select a new client.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is a client required to create a project?
A: No. Clients are entirely optional in iTimedIT. You can create projects without a client, start timers, and log time normally. Add clients when you need to track or report on work grouped by who it is for.
Q: Can I rename a client?
A: Yes. Edit the client name from the Clients page and save. The change propagates automatically — all projects assigned to that client and all time entries within those projects will display the updated client name without any further action required on your part.
Q: How do I see all hours for a client?
A: The Clients page shows cumulative totals (hours and billed amount) at a glance. For detailed, entry-level data, go to the Entries page, apply the client filter, and optionally add a date range filter. You can use this filtered view to gather the exact figures you need for a client invoice.
